I'm new to this remote stuff but I just got a new (UK) Kameleon, and i'm trying to get it to work with my ntl Pace ditv2000 cable box. the setup code 1068 seems to work most things fine, except the button marked 'TV' on the original remote. This is the button that brings up the now and next scrollable epg at the bottom of the screen. I tried learning this, but it doesn't register. My other remotes can all be learnt from. I believe that the ditv2000 uses a non-standard ir format which is why most remotes cant control it at all. Is this why it cant be learnt from? Is there a magic key for this button?

thx

I think the Pace cable box uses IrDA protocol. That isn't just a non-standard ir format (for remote controls). It's a high speed unmodulated signal that is too fast for most general purpose IR learning systems.

I think the UEI protocol for that uses multi-byte hex commands, so that even if you knew the right codes for the missing function you couldn't generate that code with an EFC number (or any other non JP1 method).

IF you knew the command code and you used a JP1 cable, you could easily program your Kameleon via JP1 to send that signal. But the usual JP1 method of decoding a learned signal to find out the command codes won't work in this case. You would need to find the code some other way. I expect someone with either better IR decoding equipment or a better understanding of how Pace uses IrDA has already found the codes and posted them somewhere on the net. But, I wouldn't know what to search for.

I think that the text clear key (a blank TV screen under the text key) should do this function. Does it not work with this code?

Someone on another forum has suggested this too, I will try it later when i get home. He also said that his Kameleon was able to learn from a pace 1000 irda remote control which sounds interesting.

thx

Are you saying that the Kameleon will control the Pace 2000 for NTL using IRDA?
If so will the Mosaic?
I thought nothing would support IRDA...

Yes, the Kameleon and almost all modern one for all remotes support IRDA for the Pace box.

Bumping this thread with a workaround for the TV button problem.

The problem. Kameleon 8040 with the 1068 setup for the Pace 2000, the TV button (Text Off) is on one screen and the navigation arrow keys are on another.

The workaround. Use the Macro feature and assign it to the Exit button. The macro is Screen/Text Off/Screen.

Then you have everything that you need on the same screen. Unfortunately, it's not the default screen, but if you use the volume Punch-Through and set the Macro key up to turn on/off your TV and Pace box, then you'll probably not really notice, especially as the PVR key changes screen and is easy to hit with your thumb.

I've mailed tech support for the Key Magic code. I'll post if I get it.

Other notes:

1. Page Up and Page Down (the Skip buttons) are the wrong way around. You could probably use the Macro function to swap these (as the original function of a button is shifted, so you just point to the shifted other button). I've not tried it though as I rarely use them and it may slow the function down. Hopefully they'll mail me the Key Magic codes.

2. The Pace box may have a narrower working arc than your TV (in my case, I can point the Kam 180* away from the TV but only about 30* with the Pace). In that case, you might want to do the cable parts of a macro first as otherwise you have to keep the controller pointing until the macro finishes.

Wow. That was a quick reply from OFA.

It seems that you don't need the Key Magic numbers. To copy an already coded function (in this case the TV function for the Pace box) to another key, you just:

Press SAT
Press Magic until the rabbit pops out
Enter 994 (indicator will blink twice)
Press the TV function key
(Scroll to the required screen if required)
Press the key where you wish to have the function copied to

I've confirmed that you can use this to swap the Page Up/Page Down functions. Presumably you can remap any programmed key this way (except the usual suspects mentioned in the Key Magic section), as even though I'd already overwitten the Page Up key, it didn't affect me when I was trying to copy the Page Up function to another key.
